Ever read something —anything— that made you think? Or that was effortless to read? The fact is that well-written words – even “writeous” words – are second to none. The right words can help you gain customers, change opinions, take action and toot your horn.
An experienced freelance writer can save your company money and can get the job done according to your needs. We're also flexible. You're not paying for a full-time salary, ever-increasing benefits or taxes – I do all of that. You can hire only what you need, when you need it. And then we're done. That is, until you call me again.
A Good Writer:
- Listens to what you have to say – and isn’t afraid to ask questions. I tell clients that my job is not to be an expert in your business or a particular field. My job is to explain your product, service, or position to other people – in real terms they can easily understand.
- Takes the time to do the research. I often say that writing the piece is often the easy part (“I didn’t write it – it was channeled to me through my keyboard, I swear!”). But it’s the research and background information – the “story behind the story” – that is crucial to a well-crafted story.
- Understands the audience. Whether you want an editorial explaining your company’s position on an issue; a press release launching a new product; or a newsletter article about an outstanding employee, a good writer will craft prose in clear language that speaks to the needs of that audience.
- Knows how to interview effectively. There’s nothing worse than scheduling a hard-to-get appointment and coming up short in the interview. Whether it’s asking the wrong questions or not having good questions at the outset, it’s a waste of time and money – neither of which are pleasant to lose. My journalism background and experience writing for a wide variety of publications means it won’t happen to you.
- Organizes the details. Inexperienced writers often get lost in the details of a story – wanting to use every last tidbit. The truth is, you can tell a great story without boring the reader to tears with the mundane. It’s all about getting organized – and writing a great lead that will hook the reader from the first sentence.
- Knows the value of having fun. Let’s face it. Doing a job you love is a lot of fun. It challenges you to become better, learn new things and impart worldly wisdom to others – even if your world is pretty small. And the day’s even better if you’re not tearing your hair out over bad copy.
